What is the Two Fly Tournament All About?
The TWO FLY Fly Fishing Tournament was created to promote corporate philanthropy for Wyoming charities. Governor Freudenthal has made it a priority to encourage companies making money in Wyoming to spend a larger portion of their charitable budget to benefit Wyoming causes. The TWO FLY is not a professional contest; while competition is a part of the contest, the objectives are to enjoy a truly remarkable fishery, interact informally with your peers in the oil and gas industry, and raise money for deserving Wyoming charities.
While fly fishing skills make scoring easier, the scoring system is designed to allow the novice to successfully compete with the bamboo heads. In fact, strategy may be equally as important as fly fishing skill to the winners, and enjoying the sport of fly fishing with old and new friends is the ultimate reward. The 2008 Tournament rules are posted on the website.
The 2008 TWO FLY Tournament will consist of only 25 two-man teams from the oil and gas industry (50 individuals). Team members will not fish together and will float fish two different stretches of the North Platte River on two different days. The Tournament will be held Thursday, May 8, and Friday May 9, 2008. Participants must fish with two flies of their own choosing for the entire day; different flies may be selected for day two. Three nights lodging, meals, boats, guides, and extras are included in the inclusive $4,000.00 cost per team. The Platte River Fly Shop and, the Ugly Bug Fly Shop, and the North Platte Lodge have been instrumental in providing equipment, services, time, and experience since the inception of the TWO FLY. The monies generated from the 2008 Tournament will be donated as follows: 42.5% to the Central Wyoming Hospice Program, 42.5% to the Make A Wish Foundation of Wyoming, and the remaining 15% will be donated to a Platte River Rehabilitation project.
There are no cash prizes though the winning team members will each be awarded a Prestige fly fishing rod and reel. Participants will receive hats, shirts, and other fishing gear as well as being eligible for various awards and prizes. An appropriate Bronze has been commissioned by the TWO FLY FOUNDATION and will be auctioned Friday night and a print quality poster of the Bronze will be presented to each participant and sponsor. The person catching the largest fish of the Tournament will be presented with a hand-carved, wooden replica of his catch-and-release trophy. Clacka Craft, for the fourth year in a row, has generously donated a 2008 fully equipped float boat to be included in the auction.
The TWO FLY poster will ultimately be hung in participants and sponsors’ offices throughout the oil patch and will be the banner for the 2008 TWO FLY Tournament.
Brown trout sponsors’ name and logo will be prominently illustrated on the 2008 TWO FLY poster as well as on the TWO FLY FOUNDATION web site and any printed materials and/or advertising. The rainbow trout sponsors will be listed as bullet points on the poster print as well as on the web site and will be acknowledged on printed materials. A list of cutthroat sponsors will be placed on the poster print and web site. Donations of equipment and/or services will be calculated at the retail price to determine sponsorship level. All donations by recognized sponsors received prior to February 1, 2008 will be included on the poster print, all sponsorship received after February 1, 2008 will be acknowledged appropriately.
