The Scoring
The intent of the TWO FLY scoring system is to minimize the needless handling of any fish caught while retaining the excitement of successfully landing a prized fish.
- Only two trout will be scored from each afternoon and morning session each day (four per day) for a total of eight (8) fish during the contest. The guide must witness the release of each fish to ascertain the fish is unharmed. Each angler is encouraged to continue fishing after selecting his “scored” trout because a “scored fish” may be replaced under Rule C below. If a contestant only chooses to score one trout or fails to land a second scoring fish, he will receive a zero (0) score for the second trout during the fishing session (see B, below for qualifying length).
- Each contestant will decide whether to score the trout and notify to the guide of his intent PRIOR to netting the trout OR TOUCHING THE LEADER. Only trout exceeding sixteen (16) inches will receive points. Trout chosen for scoring but not meeting the sixteen inch limitation will be counted in the contestants’ scoring as a measured fish scoring zero (0) points.
- A keen sense of length is encouraged in order to avoid the pit fall of “pre-mature” measurement. The “zero” scoring fish may be replaced per “C” below ( a minimum donation of $100.00 for the sustitution plus $10.00 per inch over 16 inches).
- A larger (or if you misjudged the size a smaller) trout MAY be substituted for fish already scored ONLY FOR THE CURRENT FISHING SESSION. The replacement donation amount will be assessed at $100.00 for the substitution and $10.00 per inch for each inch larger (or smaller) than the previously scored fish.
- For example in the Morning Session, a contestant has two fish, one measuring 17 inches and one measuring 20 inches. During that Morning Session, he lands a 22 inch fish (notifying the guide he intends to score the fish prior to netting or touching the leader in accordance with the rules). The donation will be $150.00 to the charity ($100 for the substitution and $50.00 for the 5 inch increase). In the event the replacement fish is smaller than the fish to be replaced (the 17 inch fish in this case), the $100.00 for the substitution and $10.00 per per inch donation will also be applied (e. g. a 16 inch fish replacing a 17 inch fish will cost $110.00). Once again a keen sense of length is encouraged.
- An Afternoon Session fish cannot be used to replace a Morning Session score or the previous day.
- Once again, the number of “Substitutions” is limited only to the ability of the contestant to make the appropriate donations.
- All trout not chosen for scoring will be immediately released and preferably without removing them from the water.
- All measurements will be performed by the guide using the “fish friendly” measuring tube provided. All trout scored will be rounded DOWN to the nearest whole inch. For example, a 17.75 inch trout will score as a 17 inch trout. The guide will tabulate each trout on an official scoring sheet issued to each angler for the competition. The guide will verify each fish by signing the contestants’ score sheet at the end of each session. A lost scoring sheet may be purchased from the guide by a free will donation to the fund raiser cause. All scoring fish will be measured with their nose against the stop at the end of the fish tube and the rays of their tail compressed to achieve maximum measurement (in accordance with Wyoming Game & Fish measuring procedure).
